SEATTLE, WA – November 13, 2024 – AuthenticID, a global leader in identity verification and fraud prevention solutions, has partnered with the California DMV to allow consumers to verify their identities in the state’s mobile driver’s licenses (mDLs) program via its identity verification and biometric authentication solutions.
Secure and convenient digital identity verification is critical to the widespread adoption of mDLs. AuthenticID’s identity verification and biometric authentication technology enables California residents to easily and privately confirm their identity in seconds, while lowering the potential for fraudulent enrollments with the use of face matching and liveness detection.
California began its rollout of the state’s mDLs as a pilot last year to 1.5 million participants. Participants can download an mDL through the California DMV mobile app and have the option to add it to Apple Wallet, Google Wallet, or the California DMV Wallet. Currently California mDLs can be used at participating airports and select convenience and retail stores across the US to verify the participant’s age.
“We’re proud to partner with the State of California’s DMV to ensure users can safely and securely verify their identities,” said Reed Taussig, CEO of AuthenticID. “Our ongoing innovation delivers our customers the highest levels of security, privacy, and customer experience so that users can verify their identities effortlessly with the devices and technology they trust.”
Adoption of mDLs in the United States is gaining momentum, with some analysts predicting 50 percent of the US adult population will have access to digital credentials and mobile IDs over the next 12-18 months. Thus far, California is among 13 states that have adopted an mDL, with numerous other states in various planned stages to introduce an mDL.
“The California DMV Wallet will continue to add public and private sector services to make Californian digital lives easier with an innovative, inclusive and privacy preserving digital credential,” commented Ajay Gupta, Chief Digital Transformation Officer at California DMV.
